LITERACY
Read Aloud:
-We will finish the book I' ve Seen the Promised Land, by by Walter Dean Myers, we will focus on identifying the main idea.
-Verdi, by Janell Cannon, we will focus on character traits
-The Secret World of Snakes, we will focus on reding features on non fiction text and reading captions and diagrams to enhanace comprehension
Shared Reading:
- Chronology of Civil Rights Movement, focus on reading and understanting informational resources
-Snake Notes to read and learn more about snakes, we will focus on summarizing text
Interactive Writing:
We will write the main idea of pieces of text as we read I've Seen the Promised Land
We will be introducing adverbs to the students this week. We will be doing this through shared readings, interactive writing, and independent writing samples.
Interactive Editing:
-Snake Notes
Independent Writing:
Students will practive writing adverbs to make simple sentences more interesting, as well as to change/show different meanings in our writing.
Students will also participate in Reading Cycles, Independent Reading and Centers.
MATH:
We will be covering the following:
-Multiplying by Multiples of 10
-Multiplying with 2- Digit Factors
- Estimating Greater Products.
We will interactively write the steps for multiplying by multiples of 10, two-digit multiplication, and estimating greater products. Students will learn to round to the tens and hundreds place to estimate greater products.
Timed Test: this week will be 11s and 12s together.
SCIENCE:
This week we continue with our Weather Unit. Today we talked about humidity, thunder, and lightening. Tomorrow we will take a closer look at how lightning is made, and why we hear thunder after the flash of light.
Wednesday we will dicuss Precipitation.
Thursday will be a quiz on lessons 7 and 8: humidity, thunder, lightening, and precipitation.
