MATH:
Timed Test - Time test will take place as usual Thursday. This week we will cover 8 and 9 times tables.
This week we are working on Section C of Chapter 10, which focusses again on measurement. This time we are covering weight and capacity. Units covered will be ounces, pounds, tonnes (weight), teaspoon, tablespoon, fluid ounce, cup, pint, quart, gallon (capacity). Thursday we will be changing units. Ex: 1 foot = how many inches? 2 pints = how many cups? Friday we will explore algebra a little bit and then next week will be a test on this section of Chapter 10.
SCIENCE:
Weather Unit!
We are beginning our unit on weather.
Tuesday we talk about what weather is. Wednesday we talk about "The Weather Engine" and Thursday will be small quiz on these two lessons. Friday we will begin to talk about wind.
LITERACY
Students should begin reading a new book for the next book report!!! Starting this Tuesday they will be held responsible for the daily journal entry they have to respond after reading at home!
Read Aloud: "Crickwing", by Janell Cannon. We will focus on identifying the differences between fiction and nonfiction text and making inferences as we read.
Read Aloud for fun!! This week we will try to finish reading the BFG , by Roald Dahl. As always, we will focus on using several reading strategies.
Shared Reading: We will be reading notes about ants and cockroaches from the book "Crickwing". We will focus on using context clues to figure out the meaning of unknown words.
Interactive Writing: We will brainstorm ideas and write an essay: 4A's New Year's Resolutuions. As a community, our class has come up with two great resolutions for this year and we will write about a plan to accomplish them and the positive outcomes of attaining our goals!
We will also review and write the rules for singular possessives and plural possessives.
Independent Writing: Students will be brainstorming ideas and writing an essay about their own resolutions. We have been discussing why New Year's Resolution's are important and how they are goals that will guide us towards becoming better persons. Students are very excited about their resolutions and are already trying hard to accomplish them. Motivate them at home in doing so!!!
Centers- This week students will be working in couples writing a story for a book with out words. They will use the illustrations on the book to write a creative story about it. They have started workig hard and seem to be enjoying it a lot! We will begin new centers next week!
